Italian Consulate

Interested in becoming an Italian Citizen?

ISDA is happy to help you get started with a step-by-step guide provided by the Consolato Generale d'Italia a Filadelfia

1. The possible acquisition of Italian citizenship exists through marriage or bloodline. If you qualify under either circumstance, please proceed to Step 2.

2. Visit the information page for visas and citizenship services for the Consulate General of Italy in Philadelphia. This is an external agency that works for a fee. They will address your particular case and, once you have gathered all necessary the documentation, they will schedule your appointment with the Philadelphia Consulate. You may also phone this agency at 800.531.0840 (be advised there is a charge for this call).

Things to Note:

There is no direct contact with Philadelphia via phone or email, prior to your first appointment.

The Honorary Consulate does NOT grant citizenship, only the Consulate General does; therefore, your packet is reviewed only by the Consulate General of Philadelphia (once you arrive there for your appointment).

You may email the Pittsburgh Office (ph: 412.765.0273 / 5) for name(s) of reliable, competent, and reasonably-priced translators for documents to be rendered into Italian from English. The fee is set between you and the translator.

3. Once you officially receive Italian citizenship, you may apply for an Italian passport. The Consulate General will provide you with information on how to go about doing so.
