Some NFL analysts weren’t betting on 49ers’ QB Jimmy Garoppolo prior to Sunday night’s NFC Championship game, which pitted San Francisco against the Green Bay Packers.
They claimed Green Bay would exploit his weaknesses, and they said he would be tested by a mighty Packers defense.
Fast forward to the present: San Francisco: 37, Packers: 20.
The 49ers (15-3) will now pack their bags, head to Miami Gardens, Fla. and face off against the Kansas City Chiefs (14-4) in Super Bowl 54 on Feb. 2.
And for those who point to Sunday night’s rush-centric play calling, they should consider this: Garoppolo has thrown 27 TDs, racked up 4,000 yards passing and earned a 102 quarterback rating.
That’s no easy feat.
The critics will once again say he isn’t ready for the big game, and like so many Italian Americans before him, the 28-year-old kid from Arlington Heights, Ill. will rise against the adversity and prove them wrong.
