Francesco Molinari, seemingly overnight, has risen to the top of the PGA.
His bogey-free weekend during the British Open at the rough and wind-swept Carnoustie Golf Links was a rare feat.
That perfectly consistent play enabled Molinari to inch up the leaderboard and surpass Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods, who all held the lead at one point.
Molinari finished with a birdie on the 18th hole Sunday, putting him at -8, and giving him a two-stroke win.
Molinari is the first Italian man to ever win a major championship, and it is the 35-year-old’s third win in his last six starts–an impressive feat for any golfer.
