Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe eloped at San Francisco City Hall on Jan. 14, 1954, and began their marriage in an enviable, Mediterranean-style home tucked into the Hollywood hills.

The pair also lived in the four-bedroom, four-and-a-half bathroom home in 1953, and soaked in the deep canyon views from their picturesque, grotto-like swimming pool.

Monroe rented the home for $237 a month, but it recently sold for $2.7 million following a brief bidding war.

The couple’s rocky relationship came to a sudden end on Oct. 31, 1955 when Monroe filed for divorce after just nine months of marriage.

However, DiMaggio held a lifelong devotion to the legendary actress and singer, and the pair eventually rekindled their friendship.
