NYC mayor weighs citywide lockdown as 729 cases reported in NY state


New York City's schools set to close, according to NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo reported Sunday that 729 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the state.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is considering a citywide lockdown, the AP reports.

New York City’s public school system, the nation’s largest with 1.1 million students, will begin shutting down this week, Cuomo said on Sunday, according to The New York Times.

Across the Hudson River, New Jersey officials are mulling over a statewide curfew.

A curfew in Hoboken, N.J. will go into effect on Monday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three coronavirus-related deaths have been reported in New York, and two deaths have been announced in New Jersey.
