Sicilian Recipe: Mozzarella in Carrozza

Crispy on the outside, melt-in-your-mouth goodness on the inside.

The following recipe, prepared by Chef Mario Batali, appears on ABC’s The Chew.


  • 1 pound fresh buffalo mozzarella (thinly sliced)
  • 8 sliced white American-style sandwich bread (crusts removed)
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil (plus 3 tablespoons)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (plus 3 tablespoons)

Servings: 4
